Fear and Loathing in Leprecon
Be warned this is a rant based on Leprecon in the Mind of Eoin Burke, as such nobody is permitted to get annoyed. BOO-YAH!
Ok Leprecon has come and gone and I'm a fool for carrying on.
Seems about right, well on thursday we had our "post mortem"/Gers party...
Well at least people managed to greatly annoy me so I'll post in anger. Seeing as I'm likely never going to be part of a con like that again, burning my bridges is freely avalible. Besides nobody reads this blog so I'm laughing.
The Run Up:
I started out wanting to do one thing at Leprecon, write and run an L5R Larp that wraps up my campaign from 2 years ago and give more poor lost players some closure. As Graham is a friend and running RPGs/LARPs that was no problem.
Then they were looking for another RPG and somebody to write a Song of Ice and Fire RPG, as at that point I didn't trust Creaner, I volunteered to do that aswell, no problem right? I mean in his prime Nick Hugins would have 3-4 games art every con?
Then one night we went out to Wagamamas...and people got drunk...and Graham asked me to be LARP guy...I said no, so he asked Ice Cream Cian...ICC is a great guy but he is often very busy with work, so I voluntered to split the detail and we'd each do one day.
About now any experineced comittee person would start to get worried about overburdening...but I forged on and nobody else stopped me so I went on ahead.
OK at Scheduled Meeting #7 (Actual Meeting #2) the issue of guests came up and it had been revealed that our overtures to WotC had been rejected and we had no guest. There was much humming and hawing and a general sort of sulky "Well e don't want a guest anyway" vibe, when I did something stupid.
I spoke up:
" I might be able to Shane Lucy Hensley"
Of course befitting my status nobody bothered to listen...except Graham who pointed out what I said.
There was a general...sure why not response. So I went out an put my small amount of Pinnacle Cred. on the line and got in touch with Shane who remains as ever a nice guy and agreed to do it at the last minute. So great I had it sor-ted!
Except for some reason I was now also Guest Guy...As a side effect of this I ditched ASoIaF and replaced it with Savage Worlds: Evernight in honour of Shane.
If Aidan or anyone had any concerns before now is where they should have told me to cop onto myself, as I was writing 1/8th of the LARP/RPG content, running LARPS AND Guest Wrangling. But in my own head I felt I had a handle on it and nobody said anything so I plowed on ahead. Everything was fine UNLESs something went wrong.
Thursday Night: Something goes wrong.
I get an email from Shane telling me his flights been snowed under, and he won't arrive until Saturday, afternoon...this means I can't pick him up from the airport, and somebody else will have to do it as I'm running L5R.
But at this stage I had Evernight written asnd L5R largely done so I wasn't TOO bothered, Creaner was being a cock about actually doing stuff like booking rooms, but I guessed we'd sort it out on the day. I would like to single out Sandra now for great praise for really helping me out of a very tricky situation where my mighty intellect failed me. You have my gratitude. *deep bow*
Friday: Dead-Line
By now nearly everthing was ready, lots of people headed off to the Cam and I went home to put the finishing touches on my L5R game...to find a mail from Shane Lacy Hensley telling me that a friend of his Simon Lucas was arriving in Dublin at 10.30 and could he be met as originally Shane was going to. We had no flight details, point of origin or phone number...I desperately fired off emails, and inadvertantly moblised Eamon Honan to trudge around Dublin Airport at midnight waking up drunks looking for Simon. BAH! not my best result...oh and apparently Dublin Airport won't announce public passengers...though Alex says thats just becuase I don't support Fianna Fail and its what I deserve for not supporting the one true rulers of this great little nation.
again
BAH!
ok to-morrow we'll do the con itself.
